Hello everyone,

I have posted a new build thread here with the E7300 as my CPU. I was later informed that the E7400 got reduced to the same price as the E7300. I knew Intel cut the prices, but I did not know it was "effective immediately."

Anyway, I was referred to you guys (the overclocking experts), about my question.

Here it is:

Do all the E7xxx chips have the same potential in overcloking? What about steppings? What do you recommend?

I got one answer saying that the E7400 will come with the R0 stepping and that it should override past multiplier issues and perform better.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your opinion.

R0? wow, that IS a new stepping. sounds cool.

imo the 7400 should OC higher tahn the otehr 7 series' because:
1: its higher binned, on average. this means the e7400's on average come with lower VID's than 7200's. this allows more overclocking headroom.
2: it has a higher multiplier. this means that if the RAM or NB is a bottleneck with the 7200's lower multi, the 7400 will allow you to keep the RAM and NB at safe speeds while increasing CPU speed.

IMO the RAM and/or NB shouldn't be a limiting factor. P45 + some nice 800/1066mhz DDR2 is more than enough headroom. voltage should be the single limiting factor in an OC. the idea is to eliminate the other variables so they don't limit your OC.

Thanks for all the info guys. Is it true that Intel is trying to phase out the E7200 and the E7300 with the E7400? I mean they all cost the same now.
