Please advise on good external drive

I'd like to get an external drive for backups, but my main criteria are that I'd like it to be quiet and spin down when not in use. Or at least turn off along with the computer. Is there anything that's recommended or a good enclosure that would do it? Thanks!

I highly recommend the Western Digital Passport or MyBook external drives. I've got a 120GB and 500GB Passport as well as a 1GB MyBook and all 3 were money well spent.

an external drive that turn off with the PC? well i guess if you can find a drive that is just power by the USB port but i don't think you will find anything over 250GB that can just be powered by the USB port. off the top of my head i know the seagate freeagent pro is only powered by the USB port. but most exernal hard drives usb powered or not have a sleep mode feature that will spin down the drive when not in use.
