Yes, sadly it has been done already. I have seen a GeForce 8500GT with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. And a 8600GT too. Both Palit brands.

Edit : Hmm.... Maybe.... There's a sort of very limited use of those cards, like really huge photo editing files or perhaps MMO scenes that have just lots of polygons? (Usually happens on cities and guild sieges, more vmemory usually helps on those cases.)

If its for multimedia purposes instead of gaming it should be labeled to say what its designed for, "media" or something of that nature should be in the description.

For gamers that is very misleading.
