I don,t believe that the new 4870 will outperform the 9800X2 it,s just to big of a leap from it's current offerings. but that it will perform around the 8800GTS (G92). In any case I want one of these cards and can't wait to get my hands on one.

3870 should perform far better than it does. The only reason it performed so poorly is because of TMU bottleneck. 4870 has double TMU, so all bets are off. :p

Is there a tentative release date yet?

yeah right... that would mean the 4870 is around 4 times as fast as a 3870... completely ridiculous... at most it will be equal to 9800 gx2... anyway I think the new nvidia 9900s are going to blow as well... I heard the 9900s are just another rehatched g92 core... and the gt200 will be the next generation of card

hoots to nvidia they update the core and make it 9xxx then they do a total update of everything (GT200 core) and name it 9900's.
You can bet there's probably 9900GT 9900GTX 9900ultra.

You probably should. The new cards will push down price for all existing cards... a lot. :p

And 4870 is to be released May 31st.

Of course not. That's why all those different rumors haven't died down. It's to be released in July, so you'll have to wait a while.

So may 31st is the release date for the 4870, I read they would be released soon but could not find a date. Does anybody know anything about the price? I,ve read a couple of prices from 230 till 350

That reference price is right. Although it'll be higher right after release.

I really want this card to be amazing, but i dont think its going to be as good as we all hope. I reckon all the leaked benchamrks are rubbish.....i think it will only just beat the 9800x2.

Then nvidia will release the 9900 series and it will blow it outa the water...i hope im wrong

I'd be happy if it performed the same as the 3870X2. But then again, it's suppsoed to be $350, and you can get the 3870X2 for likr $350.... so that doesn't seem seem like that much of a benefit. It'd still be nice to not have to worry about the dual chips though....

But if it performed about the same as the 3870X2 for about $350, I think I would get it. Unless nvidia lowers prices on other cards, or releases cards that are more attractive.

"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

I can see this card taking the performance crown, but numbers like in that link are pretty unbeliveable.

If only amd were trying to hype their new toy with grandiose claims...nah...they would never
they would certainly not leak fake benches...

i'm just going to wait untill its release and some review sites have some numbers before i start considering buying it

still... this would mean the 4870 is 4 times as good as the 3870... too big of a leap forward to be legit... honestly people think about it... i'm amazed at the number of smart people here who honestly seem stupid

Reply to thogrom

Unless the TMU was really a BAD bottleneck, then these claims are false. Excatly how bad were the 3800s bottlenecked by the TMUs? 50-70% of the card??if so then there is a possibility that these claims might be legit.
