I want to install a gigabit network for a server and a few workstations, if I have a gigabit switch and only a 100mbps router for internet am I going to be limited by the router (all workstations and server have 1000mbps nic and will be connected through the switch. Only one line will go from router to switch for internet access.)

All the data that is going from computer to computer through the gigabit switch will maintain its gigabit status.

Once the data has to get through the internet the internal bottleneck will be 100mbps as the connection from your gbit nic to your router is determined by the slowest connection (in this case...100mbps).

It's nothing to worry about b/c your internet connection will be the biggest bottleneck as its most likely 5mbps or 10mbps.
