Laptop screen turns black after I connect the laptop to another monitor

My laptop is IBM ThinkPad. The screen turns black after I connect the laptop to an external monitor, everything shows on the 2nd moniter. How do I still keep the screen on my laptop? It worked before, it just happened couple days ago.

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

In your Display settings in Control Panel, there will be a setting to tick to mirror the image on to both screens. Tick that, click Apply and OK your way out and it should work.
