Hi, my desktop (xp) died and I salvaged the hard drive from it and bought an external enclosure to see if I can save all my files in my Documents folder. However, it says that the main my documents folder, the HP_Administrator folder is access denied, thus I cannot view or copy anything in that folder. Basically I have no access to that folder. How can I remove this protection on this folder so I can save my files and move all of the files in that folder to my laptop? Or is there a work around to this?

Thank you.

Register or log in to remove.

You can remove the protection by trying to open it as an administrator. Go to the Folder's properties, and look for the Security tab. That interface should allow you to reenable read and write access for yourself.
