Are you talking about system RAM? DDR2, absolutely. DDR3 will not work at all with that motherboard. If it's about the memory on the video card, DDR3 is better. 512MB will help a lot at higher resolutions such as on a 20" widescreen or larger. All those brands are good. Maybe eVGA or XFX are better.

Don't bother with the 8600gt, if your power supply can handle it, step up to the 8800 gs or 9600gt for a little more. Should be more futureproof and play at higher settings.
I agree that the 8800gs or 8800gt would be better if you can afford them. If you can't and the 8600gt is a must, go with the DDR3 and 256MB of RAM. You won't be able to play games and high enough resolution and AA/AF settings to need the 512 of RAM. Go with it if it's not much more, but 256 is plenty if the 512 is expensive. I like all the brands, just get one with a lifetime warranty and you'll be fine.

It's only about $30 less than a 8800gs though. The small savings is pretty much pointless unless you're really strapped for cash.
yep, the 8800GS is a huge step up from the 8600GT. Trust me, unless you do absolutely no gaming at all, then $30 is a small price to pay for the performance increase. GET THE 8800GS!!

1) DDR3
2) 256MB will save a few $$, 512MB won't really be much of a benefit
3) Doesn't really matter, which ever is best priced. They are pretty much all the same reference board. Maybe one had better cooling and support though.
My thoughts, as everyone elses, are to get an 8800GS. It is INFINITLY better than a 8600GT. Unless you have a very small powersupply and are strapped for cash, don't bother with the GT.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130085 I will say, this GDDR3 8600GT for $49 AR is about the best GF86 value I have seen. It's half the performance at best of the 8800GS, but unlike most GF86's this one is half the price AR. I picked one up a couple weeks ago myself as it's decent on a cheap budget.

Lol.....
I am from India.
There is a huge price difference in India and USA or Europe. Sorry,I can not afford 8800GS that costs Rs.8800(US$220) in India.
