Googling letterman+hdtv found:
None of these are definite confirmation - apparently they all could have the same source -
a verbal announcement last January at an affiliates meeting.
I couldn't find anything on the CBS site.
Tune in next month to see. Maybe he'll do something like he did when they switched to MTS
(TV stereo) sound many years ago and flip a switch on stage.

The latest at the HDTV programming forum at avsforum.com is Letterman
will be going HD on August 29. They will be completing the upgrade of
all the equipment during the August break. However, the date may slip if
they run into technical problems.

HD should make Letterman allot more fun to watch. Too bad I can no
longer stay up late enough to see it. What I need is an affordable
HDTV recording device, but I don't think any exist as yet. Does it?

In a short while, BeyondTV (www.snapstream.com) will support ota HDTV,
as I understand it.

If you already have a PC near the TV, any of the PCI cards will do the
job, but I like the MIT MDP-130 for around $250.
It can also play music (MP3, AAC, and quite a few more formats) and show
pictures in HD.
