I am trying to decide on components for a rebuild of my existing computer. I have a good rack mount case. I like my Razer mouse and Logitech buletooth keyboard. I have two recent ESATA2 drives. So I think that I will be upgrading mobo, cpu, psu, memory.

I want to work with large digital images, maybe some 3d rendering and video. Don't play games on a pc. I would like the vid card to output to my hd projector.

Tentatively I have decided on the following components:

EVGA 512-P3-N862-AR GeForce 9600GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
$159 after rebate.

Concerned that this outputs to S-video and has a cable that converts to component HDTV. I determined this from the pictures.

Some questions were raised by a review who said this psu is not compatible with some mobos -- because you can't connect both 8-pin and 4-pin at the same time.

Cannot determine if the mobo I have chosen has both an 8-pin AND a 4-pin.

Would also like to know if there is any significant performance improvement going to the next level of components and what these might be?

Your input greatly appreciated!

Did you plan to try your hand at overclocking the CPU?
You chose a motherboard that touts: "Enthusiast design for great overclocking performance"
Also your Power Supply looks to be sized as if you're considering a 2nd video for that motherboard - 9600GT in SLI mode.

In cost neutral mode you could get a good P-35 motherboard, 450watt PSU and a Q9300 2.5Ghz CPU and have a higher performance system
GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R $130 CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W PSU $60 after rebate Core 2 Quad Q9300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz $285

Thank you for your reply WR2. I am not really an overclocker. I could learn it if necessary. Mostly I want to work with me images. I was thinking about the higher power psu in case I want to expand this system, later.

I will look up the specs on these components.

My upper end budget would be about $1500.
