What are the symptoms when a CPU degrades?

normaly you will only notice it when overclocking

i had a p4 2.4ghz that used to overclock to 3.2 with no extra volatge but after a while it just would not be stable over 2.8 ( this was after 1 year of non overcloked use)

There is a great article on electromigration written quite a few years ago by GE or IBM but I can't find it.

Look up Jim Black.

Here is something to start with.

Essentially when you pump more voltage at the CPU the likelihood of accelerating electromigration is increased.

i did not change any of the stuff in my pc between my overclocking attempts and the temperature was about the same

the pc still worked at stock for a year after that until i sold it ( not know if its still alive)
