butcher Distinguished Jan 13, 2006 71 0 18,630 Jun 1, 2008 #2 normaly you will only notice it when overclocking i had a p4 2.4ghz that used to overclock to 3.2 with no extra volatge but after a while it just would not be stable over 2.8 ( this was after 1 year of non overcloked use)

Here is something to start with. http://www.cadence.com/whitepapers/4095_Electromigration_WP.pdf Essentially when you pump more voltage at the CPU the likelihood of accelerating electromigration is increased.

butcher Distinguished Jan 13, 2006 71 0 18,630 Jun 1, 2008 #4 i did not change any of the stuff in my pc between my overclocking attempts and the temperature was about the same the pc still worked at stock for a year after that until i sold it ( not know if its still alive)
