I'd appreciate some feedback on this because I'm not sure if I should
get a repair guy out to look at my set. I have the HD52Z585 model and
it's about 2 weeks old. The manufacture date is January 05. My dvd
player is a Denon DVD-1600 using component output.

I'm having 2 issues. I was watching a 24 Season Three episode on dvd
and noticed a deformity on closeups of people's faces. Basically it
looks like a part of a person's face is "melting" or deforming when
the image is static for a couple seconds and then there is a little
camera movement. There was a closeup of Jack Bauer's face and the area
around his eyes seemed to blur or deform when his head moved side to
side slightly after having been pretty much still.

This is the best description I can give. It's hard to explain but I
think that's fairly accurate. My tv had been on for several hours at
this point and these things do get pretty hot after a while. I noticed
it a few other times in other scenes as well. I replayed the same
scene over and over and it happened everytime. It didn't seem to
happen when I played it in slow-motion so maybe it's related to speed
of the footage.

The other issue is a little more obvious. The black bars at the top
and bottom when watching 2.40:1 aspect movies are slightly, but
noticeably slanted. I measured them on both sides and the bars are
"wider" by about 1/4" on the left top and lower right side. I don't
know if the geometry is supposed to be perfect on these or if it's
even reasonable to expect this to be corrected by a repair person
under warrantee. It IS noticable when watching a movie so I would like
to get it corrected if possible. The grey/black sidebars when watching
4:3 sources are also slightly concave on both sides.

I really love this tv so I'm still happy with it despite this stuff. I
could do without the rise in temperature in my living room after this
tv has been on for a while though. Has anyone heard of the first
problem or any heat related problems in these sets? I'd be happy to
answer any questions about this tv for people in the market for one.
Thanks a million

I think I have seen this effects on other JVC models.
I beleive the cause is the image "enhancement".

I don't know if it kan be removed but try the different uppsampling
and noise filters and motion prediction under "Picture Adjust".
See if you can turn some of them OFF or to a less aggressive setting.

I tried turning of the noise reduction, color management, and dynamic
gamma but it didn't help. Not much else to change in settings

Your set should still be under warranty. Call the number in the back of
your user's manual for support. I've had to call them a few times and
they've been very good about getting someone out to take a look at the
problem and resolve it at no charge.

JVC just recalled this tv the first of August due to sparking and
possibility of fires. I had bought one from Bestbuy the first of August
and 2 HRs before delivery they called to let me know about the recall so
Bestbuy sold me the 2006 model for the same price. The recall notice is
on their web site under customer support.
