Laptop cd drive not recognized

Hello everyone,
I have tried all suggestions listed for this problem but to no avail. Even when I go into device manager i have no listing for cd/dvd just disk drives. Upon opening this I just get the drive model I assume which is ST9160821AS ATA DEVICE. Any other ideas to solve this dilemma would be appreciated.

Optical drives are a weak link. Maybe it died.
