Hey everyone .. So like 2 days ago, the stock chipset fan in DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard just died on me ... I am trying to revive it these days, but in case it doesn't work, I'm gonna need an aftermarket chipset cooler for my DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard ... by the way, I have my video card plugged in the bottom PCI-E slot, one which is not directly in front of the chipset fan cooler space ..
So, any chipset fan cooler suggestions for my DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard ?
I used to have that board and yeah... the stock northbridge cooler was notorious for being a peice of junk.... that's a shame because the board was a great O.C.er. I remember replacing my cooler with a vantec cooler. I think it is this one here : The cooler worked great and was reasonable in cost!
OK thanx for the help everyone .. So I think I'm gonna buy this Evercool VC-RE .. I got two more questions about the thermal compound re-application procedure ...
1) The Evercool VC-RE fan kit already has some thermal compuound in it. Do you think that's good enough, or should I buy some Arctic Silver Ceramique just for this .. ? I mean, I know that Arctic Silver Ceramique may give slightly better results than the compound coming with the Evercool VC-RE, but would the difference be so much that I should specially buy Arctic Silver Ceramique for this ? Also, to be very honest, I really just want to get the new fan up and running .. I'm not really crazy about reaching the best possible performance ... So would the thermal compound coming with the Evercool VC-RE be good enough for me ?
2) Secondly, about the alcohol cleaning substance thats needed to clean up the chip's top before re-appling some thermal compound ... does this alcohol solution need to be something specific, or can it be just any other ordinary alcohol solution used for cleaning household stuff ?
For a SB, I'd just use the stuff that comes with it. Alcohol works fine to take off TIM paste and clean up.
There is stuff called Artic Clean that comes in two small bottles. It really works great to clean the slime of a mem chip on a GPU that has TIM tape on it when you are upgrading th GPU cooler. It's greasy/oily on the ram chip. Alcohol won't clean it good enough for putting a TIM double sticky tape on it. Thats where Artic Clean does it's magic. I could lift my GPU by one taped on mem HS.
I don't use it often, but when I do, it works great. Petras is one place that sells it.
Arctic Clean IS great stuff, but you should be able to get by by scraping off most of the old stuff with something like a 3x5 index card edge, and then wiping off the rest with rubbing alcohol. To speed drying, get the "anhydrous" isopropyl alcohol at your supermarket/pharmacy.
