hello everybody !!
I'm going to buy a graphic card and I can only choose between 7600 GT 256 mo and 8400 GS 512 mo.
So, I know that 7600 GT is more powerful than the 8400 GS, but 8400 GS can support directX 10 and the 7600 GT can not..
I would like to know if the directyX 10 is so important ?
thank you.

How long are ou keeping this card?

More than 2 year, important, less than 2 years, not important.

Overall considering prices, I'd say getthe GF7600GT and then upgrade later.

By the time the GF8400 would be useful or need DX10, you could probably by a low end equivalent DX10.1/11 card for $30 or less.

thank you for your answer.
I think that i'm keeping this card less than 2 yers, 7600 GT seems to me the best one.

I would like to get more points of view.
thank you .

Hi fouzi welcome to the forum.
Like TGGA says of the two the choice would be the 7600GT, thats tough having such a limited choice.
Do you mind me asking why that is. Is it just availability where you live ?

dx10 is only available in vista and you don't get better frame rates or anyting like that. it's just looks better. 8400 is a really really crappy card, it's meant for vista aero, so vista looks nice. you will not be able to play a lot of games with 8400 card, especially the dx10 titles. if you take a look at the tomshardware vga charts, the 7600 really outperforms the 8400.

i hope you're not planning to do some gaming with these cards, you will be disappointed.

You can get an 8600GT or ATI 3650/2600 they are faster than the 7600GT and are about same price (if you have some deal on the 7600GT tell us the price so we can consult you further)

My personal advice is go with ATI 2600 XT or 3650, if you dont have the money go to 3470 or 2600 PRO, dont bother with 7600GT as its speed is easily achieved by newer more price/performance superior cards

my probleme is with the place where i'm living.
there we haven't too much choices..
I think that I will take the 7600 GT 256mo, it price here is 40 €.
I have no choice..unluky !

Yes, and unlike what Godless said, you will get all the fancy Aero verctor graphic eyecandy, it's DX9 not DX10 based.

I think he's confusing DX8/DX9/DX10 or else thinking about the games aspect for DX10, but the GF7600 is more than fine for Aero.

thank you for this answer ,now you make me sure about my choice, so I can take the final decision, thank for all people ..! for your help for both true and false answers, the most important is to help. thank's

Huh?

You don't need DX10 card, but you probably need to download the latest version of DX which still supports the older cards, just don't get all the features.

Min spec for Halo2 is R9800 class card.

It officially says X700, but an R9800Pro would be equal power.

You don't even need SM3.0, let alone DX10.

Neither of those cards are anywhere nearly enough to run the typical new games that use dx10 anyway. Old games do not use dx10. So the 8400's dx10 support is useless. :p

You should increase your range of choices. Consider something like 8800gs. It's the difference between a $50 paperweight and a $100 entry level card that is actually usable. Graphics is a lousy place to save $50, when you've already spent so much building the rest of the machine.
