Right now, in that price range, it would be p45 boards.

I agree with Dagger, select from the P45 boards. If you don't need RAID or other features like that you can choose from the lower price ranges within P45.

Stick a couple Radeon 4850's in and you'll be good to go! :D

Not a couple, just one. For cf 4850, you need at least a x38 board with dual pcie2.0x16. P45's pcie runs at x8 in cf mode.

Ah many thanks Dagger, just skimmed that and has some very interesting results!!!

I was just saying during the recent 48xx launches how we need to see some results on these cards and the PCI-E 1.1 vs 2.0 lanes. I've been leaning towards that the 4850's would be okay on a P45 because although when both slots are used it's a x8 and x8, it's PCI-E 2.0 so double the bandwidtch. Interesting how they showed some slowdown though on the 4850's!  I'd like to see that done with 4870s as well, and of course 4870x2's when they launch.

Sorry for going a little OT on ya Vulture :)

Even the MSI for $100, the first item in the list linked by Dagger, should get the job done!  But you'll probably have to read the specs of a couple different ones and see if there's anything important to you on the more expensive models ($130-$150). RAID is one, for example.

I dont have much experience with P45 boards yet so I can't get too specific for you unfortunately. I find the NCIX.com forums really helpful. Every item on the site has its own forum where people ask questions, leave replies, etc. Might be worth browsing through there as you'd get lots of info and recommendations that way.

Good luck!
