Hi Guys,

I have just bought a new gigabyte ga-x48-ds4 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] ga-x48-ds4 )
and intalled my new hardware.

It has two pci-e slots in it, and when i power on the PC with the video card in slot pcie_1 i cant get a video signal to the monitor, and it sounds like the fan on the video card is labouring...

I tried again in pcie_2, and everthing works OK.

Potentially there is a problem with pcie_1 slot, but im thinking it could also have something to do with my dodgey power supply ? I have a 550w super flower power supply, E5800 stock fan, 1 sata HD, and 1 sata dvdrom connected to it at the moment... however If it was the power supply, i cant figure out why it works in slot 2, and not slot 1...

has anyone experienced this problem before ? am i supposed to install a single card in slot 2 in non xfire configurations ( its also a single nvidia card until i get my dual 4870's! ) ?

I have a new power supply coming in the mail, but i don't know if i should wait for that to arrive in a few days and test it, before i take the board back to the store for replacement ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cyb

Have you tried unplugging everything from the mobo (power connectors and such) and putting it all back?

Also another PCIE card to test out?

Did you plug in the 6 pin power connector when you tested it in pcie 1?

I know alot of this sounds pretty basic, but sometimes we don't try the easiest things and instantly assume its worse that it might be.

Hi Sciggy!

yeah, i tried two video cards in both slots, slot one continually has the same problem.

I also tried with and without the pcie power connectors from the PSU, and the idling of the fan in slot one is obviously more noticeable without the psu connector.

I have also removed everything and plugged it back in, and also tested with only cpu & video card ( incase other devices were draining too much power ), and still get same result.

Sounds to me like a bad slot on the mobo personally.

What kind of card is it that you are installing?

Yeah i think its the slot too... i have contacted the store, but they are trying to avoid me... so its going to be a few days before I get a new one i think.
