Unmountable boot volume

Hello,
My Dell 630i with XP pro has the dreaded "Unmountable boot volume" error. I set the BIOS to boot from the DVD, install the disk and reboot. It begins the windows setup then tries to start windows instead of giving me a recovery screen option. When it tries to start windows, it goes into another blue screen of death. This began when I had a power blip during a virus clean-up operation.

Try " fdisk /mbr" and then fdisk the hdd to remove any and all partitions...

The hard drive has failed. You will need a new one.

I've frequently found that a Linux OS can mount volumes which Windows has given up on. PCLinuxOS from http://www.pclinuxos.com can do it and is free to download and run as a LiveCD.
