Hello,

I'm pretty sure I have narrowed down my problem. I have an overheating processor. The reason I think this is for one I've been search about the 8400 intel processor and found that they have a heat sensor issue. I've used Nmoniter and core temp to measure my CPU's temp but they are both different by about 5-7 degrees C. Also when I first got my computer my friend when building it couldn't exactly get the fan on the cpu the right way. The screws wouldn't lock. It's on there but not as tight or as good as I would think it would or should be. Another thing is when I'm playing a game for a while or when the room get's hot my comp slows to a crawl. My characters in games don't respond to the things I tell them to do. Also in webpages or other programs K will keep hitting like keys to type but it takes a while for the computer to get them on the screen.

Anyways anyone have any idea how this could be fixed? One thing I'm thinking of doing is getting a new CPU fan. I've looked on NewEgg.com but I have no idea what to get. I will post my system specs below.

In Advance thanks for the help and if this is posted in the wrong place, please transfer it and let me know. Don't just delete it cause I'll just post it again till someone tells me otherwise.

I'm currently using a Cooler Master Hyper TX2

It still uses the push pins like a stock cooler, but they seemed mount easier. There are also a lot of good coolers that use a back plate and screws, you just have to take the MoBo out to mount them.

That fourth push pin is a real pain in the butt you have to have the "click" when you push it or it won't make good contact with the CPU and you will get over heating issues....... good luck!

Really all you might have to do is just try to mount the cooler again and really make sure you get all four pins to click!

GET A NEW CPU COOLER OR CONNECT THE OEM ONE CORRECTLY!!!!

Sorry for yelling but you absolutely shouldn't run the system until you get the CPU cooler thing fixed. If you don't know what your doing then ask a friend that does or take it to a shop and have them do it.

You could buy a aftermarket CPU cooler but you don't really need one unless your overclocking and if you can't get the factory heat sink on then I would recommend that you not overclock.

1971 is right. Since it's almost impossible to properly mount those 4 pins with the MB already mounted in the case, you'll need to take the MB out of the case before trying to remount the CPU cooler. That way, you can support the back of the board with your hand as you push the pins through, and look at the back to make sure each pin is all the way through. There are some other tips in this post: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] s#t1249881

Agreed! Pushpins dont dont go in al the way if you mount it inside the case.
Pushpins require a fair amount of force, and when you apply the needed force in the case the mobo flexes and the pins bottom out on the mobo tray, not allowing them to go in al the way.

Well I went inside my comp and tried to really crank down on that fan. I almost got all the pins secure except for one. I ran age of conan today afterwards and Core Temp and Nmoniter both now say I have a temp of up to 113 C. That can't be right. I don't and won't overclock my system cause I don't know how. But I'd like to know what the hell is going on with my comp

I just did a build with a E2180 and I just couldn't get that last pin to go so I totally removed the heatsink and started over. I made sure the pins were turned the correct way and pulled all the way out and that the ends were straight and would go in the hole. I tried again and everything went together fine. As the saying goes, sometimes you need to take a step back to take two steps forward.

a tip from me.make sure the pin is in the holes before you push the lock in.otherwise you will just lock it on top of the mobo.push all 3 pin in and the last one which is top right that one is easier to get to.because above that pin is nothing compare to the other 3 pin which all have back side of case,NB cooler,PSU in the way.

the sensor reads low

re-apply the thermal coumpond and make sure the hsf is on right

an 8400 should not over heat - remember the quad is 2 cores in the same box and if you over heat 1 you did something wrong
its that simple!
