I have an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ XP-M running on a k7s5a motherboard with a geforce 6200 graphics card.
For some reason it idles at 43C and the system crashes when it reaches 50C.
The cooler I have for it is a thermaltake extreme volcano 12.
I have arctic silver 5 as the thermal grease.
I did not have the crashing problem before when I had with my old AMD Athlon Thunderbird chip with the stock cooler. With that old chip I was getting cpu temperatures up in the 50s and the computer still worked fine.
First of all your comp shouldn't be running @ 43c idle. That's too high. And second, you need to check the airflow in your case. If you only have one fan, you may need to put another in. Also you may have put too much AS 5 on. If so pull it off and reseat the heatsink. Hope this helps.
