Will a CPU cooler that fits a 940/AM2+ fit AM3 boards? Also if it fits a Core 2 Duo board will the cooler fit an I7 board?

I want to purchase a high end after market cooler, but only if its something I'm going to be able to keep with my next upgrade since a aftermarket cooler will do little to increase the resale value of a Mobo/CPU/RAM/GPU a 12-14 months from now (I tend to upgrade my core parts every January, keeping the storage, case, psu, i/o devices and monitor)

I think this will work. Get a Zalman 9700 fan. When you are ready to use it on an i7 board, buy a $5 adapter and you are good to go.
