Any of you ditch P35 for a P45?

Well if I had to build another pc, I would take a p45, but I wont ditch my p35 untill it burst to flames! Or buy another computer whichever come first. They just don't offer enough advantage for a 100-150$ investment over my p35.

Actually, for max overclocking, it's quite a large difference.

And it use PCIE2.0.

Still, if you already use a p35 board, it's definately not worth spending money and ripping out the guts of your computer just for a p45. If you're building a new PC, there is no reason to get p35 instead of p45 though. And p35 will be out of production soon, so you won't be able to get it even if you want to.

I was about to buy a Gigabyte P35 board for a new build because there seem to be so many users who have done it before and posted on these forums... I've barely seen a thread or two on the P45.

Isn't that a good reason to stick to the P35? New chipsets invariably mean new bugs and some of us don't want to deal with it.. I am planning to put in a Q6600 and OC it to 3.1 - 3.2 GHz at most.

For such moderate purposes, why risk the bugs of a new P45 board with NO reputations so far when I can go with a good board like the GA-EP35 DS3R or DS3L?

Has anyone even had an experience with OCing a P45 board? Any known BIOS bugs?

Ok thanks guys I kept wanting to pull the trigger on a P45 but you guys have talked some sense into my head. No real peformance gain especially since i dont overclock. Ill save the money for Nehalem

If p45 cost significantly more, I'd agree. But it starts at $90, or $79.99 after mir. Most p35 cost more, and there's no reason to pay more for less.

PCIE2.0 provides double bandwidth, and can be useful for more powerful graphics cards. Also, p45 support 45nm chips natively, while p35 requires bios updates, if the board comes with original bios. P35 also has compatibility problems with ddr2 ram greater than 800mhz, p45 does not.

Dagger right now i have a P5k e wifi. Its not broken but i was wondering if i should upgrade until nehalem comes out. Im using corsair ddr2 800. Two main reasons for wanting to upgrade was
1) I only have to do it once but when i install vista and start click the next buttons in the set u it would take around 20 to 40 ish seconds to go to the next screen
2) Running pcmark vantage after i hit run benchmarks it will litterally scan my system first for close to 1 hour and 30 minutes before it starts the benchmarking

Most people are saying no real improvements and to skip

I have everything for my build except the MB. I was all set to get an abit IP35 Pro, then they released the XE version, which unless you want an open box, is now all you can get from newegg. I think I'll wait on this before I make the P35/ P45 decision.

I've been following threads on all forums concerning the P45 and most people seem to be happy with it, but it's also not blowing the P35 out of water by any means. I'm not a big gamer so the PCI-E 2.0 is not a deal breaker for me. Also I don't have an extensive knowledge of overclocking and may get the P35 for that reason as the 45 seems to require a little more tweaking.
