Is there a way to install different versions of the same program onto
a palm, without one version overwriting the other? In other words, can
different versions of the same program coexist on the same machine? I
have a Tungsten E.

It all depends on how the author wrote the program.

In general, no. If you want to include different versions on the card, then
yes, it's possible. The question is why.

Actually, I can see a reason for keeping different versions on the card. I
do that when I'm experimenting with betas - I can keep a known good version
on the card, and play around with the beta, and reload the stable version if
the beta doesn't play nice. But 2 versions in RAM won't work, unless the
author gives them different internal names, which is what the Palm sees. You
can rename the file on the PC, transfer it to the Palm, and there is no
difference - the DOS assumed name affects nothing.
