I just got a Toshiba 52HM94 which has cablecard and a Toshiba 160HD4 High
Def DVR. My cable service is with Time Warner in Cincinnati.
I called TW cable and they tell me that the cable card will not provide a TV
guide on screen, not only the interactive guide but any guide. They also
said that without their digital box I will not get the split screen function
or PIP even though the TV specs and manual indicates as I should get both
the guide and the split screen capability.
Can anyone help me with what the 52HM94 is capable to do with the cable card
only and the Toshiba HD 160 HD4 DVR while connected to TW? Time Warner is
not helpful at all.

Cable cards are one way so there's no way to communicate back to it, to
change pages on a cable guide, for example, or to select a Pay Per View
movie.

This is true, but the 52HM94 has built in TV Guide onscreen that is great
when it works.

Talked to somebody with a Sharp 37D5U. TV guide worked after the TV
downloaded the stuff from the Comcast server that it needed. This happened
overnight.

I should have added that nothing happens until you call Comcast with the
serial number of the cable card. Not sure what this means about two way
communications. I believe that if you get their box, you still have to call
them.
