CD/DVD unrecognized-OK after restore - next bad again

My CD and dvd drive stopped being recognized by windows. I did a restore and then they worked fine until the next day when I turned the pc on again.

There's obviously something that's disabling your CD and DVD drives, which starts when you boot up Windows. Run any malware scans lately?

There are many methods you can try:
1. Check device manager
Is there any red or yellow alert?
2. Check you BIOS settings
Is is disabled?
3. How long have you had this cd/dvd drive?
It might be broken if you have had if for a long time.

i too am having this problem...did the device manager and it showed up on 'my computer' as being there but when i tried to use it, would not work and disappeard from 'my computer'. did the device manager again and also reloaded drivers but when the device manager completes, shows the drive with a yellow triangle (which is an error msg) and flashes off and no longer shows on my computer. looking for help on getting this cd drive back on line. thanks
