I just set up a Q6600 on a evga 780i. I have a tuniq tower (Has a fan in it) on it and 4 fans adding air and 1 removing.
Right now core temp is saying core 0 is 45 degrees C with 0 load
core 1 is 42
core 2 is 35
and core 3 is 37
this is only the 2nd one Ive build and only the 1st time ive used a quad core. 1st was a AMD 64 a few years back. Is it supposed to be running this hot? any help would be great
Several variables. Ambient room temp and Location compared too AC vents. I have a % degree swing when AC clicks on ( Bottom intack is at floor level and 6 feet from AC vent.
But first, I would use CPUID (HWMonitor or Real temp to validate readings.
I have a P965 chipset, but back of my mind others have commented on higher readings on Nvidia chipsets - fix being updating BIOS.
More important, what are your load temps. Run orthos, or prime 95, Or TAT while monitoring your temps.

Cant load it. A friend who knows more about this then I do is playing with it but I cant keep the multiplier at 800 and load it for more than 5 minutes without a core dropping...
By your description of your ventilation it sounds like it needs to be changed, you say you have 4 inlet fans and 1 exhaust, it should be the other way around. At minimum you should have balanced intake and exhaust, but it is preferable to have more fans exhausting air than intake. Right now by your description you are trapping the hot air in the case.
My Q6600 o/c 3.2G is running at 45C with all 4 cores maxed with SMP Folding plus GPU folding. Room temp 22C. P182 case with 2X 120mm Scythe fans for exhaust. OCZ V2 cooler.
What case are you running, what is the room temp at the air intake?

Dude, simply check the mounting of your heatsink fan. It sounds like it's not getting a clean mount on the CPU. Did you change the thermal paste? I had an issue like this, I was wondering why my temps were showing higher, then I realized that my heatsink/fan was not properly mounted.
