Hi,

Building my first ever computer, which is intended to be a mid-range gaming build. I think I have a final parts list, but I'm not sure it's all compatible. I think it is, but I'm not 100% sure.

Case: Apevia X-Plorer (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144107)
PSU: Etasis 750W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817608006)
MoBo: EVGA 750i Intel (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188026&nm_mc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r-_-Motherboards+-+Intel-_-EVGA-_-13188026)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115038)(
RAM: Corsair DDR2 800 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034)
HDD: Corsair 7200RPM 250GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262)
GPU: GeForce 8800GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318)
DVD: Lite-On DVD+R (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228)

I'm not sold on this set of parts, so let me know if there's any big mistakes. Particularly let me know if you see any good places to save some cash.

Also, a couple of other questions: Would this rig be able to support another 8800 GT? Is it necessary to buy a floppy drive if I'll be running Vista? Is this motherboard overkill, and if so, what would be another, cheaper one that could still handle SLI & the overclocking? Oh, and last: Will this case cool well enough, or should I get a different one?

Would also appreciate advice on a good monitor to buy that would make the best use of these parts.

Thanks for any help!

Personally I would change alot of stuff, if you want bang for buck..

Case is fine..

Wouldnt touch the power supply, Corsair 750watt is $20 cheaper and much better..

Motherboard is very nice, but expensive when you think a brand new socket is coming in 6 months, ECS NF650i SLI is a good board and only $79

I would get a Quad at this stage, unless you want to overclock a cheap E2180 to 3.0ghz..

Ram is very nice only $33, you could add 4gb instead if you have 64bit OS

I would get a bigger hard drive, 250gb isnt what it used to be, 500gb would suit..

Graphics card is fine, though I would sli 9600gt ( only $238 ) if your going to get 24" monitor..

Dvdrw is fine...

This is what I would build, brillant performance for under $1000

24" Monitor I would get this samsung

22" Monitor

I'm not super savvy on motherboards, but unless I'm mistaken that motherboard doesn't support true 16x SLI. Am I right here? Does that even make a difference?

I'm pretty well sold on the graphics card, as they do SLI extremely well.

Thanks for the tip on the monitor.

The true 16x thing is a scam.
Its only a 1-2fps advantage.

Any you NEED SLi for a 24". Don't even think of gaming at native res (1080p ?) on a 24" with a single card.
