I don't really follow computer hardware much or know a lot about it, but I like to have the best. That's why I'm asking you to help me. I want to know if it's worth it to upgrade to 9800GX2 from SLi 8800GTS (640mb, G80 I believe). I'd put the 9800GX2 on my current motherboard that doesn't support PCI-E 2.0.

Since it's g80, it'll perform lower than 9800gx2. If it's g92 it would perform higher than 9800gx2.
2 g80 8800gts to 9800gx2 may not be enough of a performance gap to warrant an upgrade, especially considering the price of 9800gx2. 2 g92 8800gts might make sense, since it's $169.99 after MIR each, and provides a bigger performance boost than a single 9800gx2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814134037
I do not believe PCIE1.1 would bottleneck a gx2, but it's 2 gpus running on 1 pciex16, as opposed to 2 running on their own x16 lanes. So it's not ideal.
The performance would be so similar, that in most games you would never notice that upgrade, if indeed you can call it one. I would wait a couple of months until the g100's hit the market, perhaps as soon as July, and that will be something you will be able to see.

Performance isn't similar at all. There is quite a large gap. G80 8800gts 640mb perform the same as 8800gs and 9600gt, and significantly lower than g92 8800gts. http://en.expreview.com/2008/04/02 [...] p/?page=10
To say that 2 of them in sli is good enough would be a better way of putting it. And what's a g100?
