I'm upgrading a firends PC and needed some help picking a PCI-E GPU for his mobo thats under or around $50.
this is his mobo - > http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-u [...] p?S_ID=283

& this is what I have to choose from as my friend doesn't want to order it online and wants to buy something from their retail store near him http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] 243&sort=3

if you look through you'll see that some of the Galaxy Cards have mail in rebates that bring them down to the $40 range...

Please advise!

Many thanks!

What is this GPU for? All those cards are good for Word and Excel, but useless for recent games. If your friend is looking for a gaming card he should get the $160 9600GT or better. That's the cheapest card I found on that list which can play Crysis acceptably, for example.

Toms has a comparative list of graphic cards http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 923-7.html a good place to compare one card against another

He isn't going to be gaming much from what i know.

He just wants to be able to play movies on his HDTV with it and have visualizations run well when hes listening to music on his computer.

id say the 3450.

and the 9600 is no good.

Yeah I would definately second the 3450. Its pretty much the best GPU for HD as it has avivo which offloads HD onto the GPU so it won't ever lag playing movies, plus it sends audio through HDMI out of the box (on Nvidia GPU's you have to connect a cable to it for it to do that)
If you want a comparable nvidia part, it would be the 8400GS, but the 3450 is MUCH preferred over it.

+1 for the HD 3450.

nvalhalla: What's wrong with the 9600? I haven't heard anything but good about it.

Looks like i'm going with the 3450 then!

Any idea why this one isn't on the chart that dirtmountain posted?
I'm assuming that it would place above the X1650 Pro thats only $5 less... http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] 99.243.272

hmm.... 64 stream processors on the 9600 for $150 or 112 stream processors on the 8800gt for about the same price...
