I want to create an external hard drive that is a clone of my laptop hard drive that I can also boot from. I essentially want to be able to pull out my on-board hard drive and boot from the external flash hard drive in a Vista Home Premium environment. I press F12 at startup and select the external drive for boot purposes. I use Acronis True Image Home to clone the internal drive to the external drive but I can't get the laptop to boot from the external drive. What else do I need to do to external drive to make this work? Thanks.

Have you tried making a flash drive bootable, then trying to boot from that using the F12 menu? Just want to check if there's anything wrong with your mobo's USB-boot capability.
