An ATI card would be a better choice for HD decoding and a midrange at that (for better picture quality), it also supports full VC1 decoding which nvidia currently does not. So a HD 2600 or 36xx. nvidia driver and vista has all kinds of problem especially washed out color with certain configurations.

There's also a free DXVA decoder inside Media Player Classic Home Cinema that works better with ATI card (simply because its developer uses a ATI card).
