Dell inspiron reads cds not dvds

i got a dell inspiron 1545 laptop a few weeks ago, and its been good up until now. But now, when I put a cd into my combo cd/dvd drive, nothing happens, and eventually, it is read as a blank dvd. When i put a dvd in, everything is fine. I can't think of anything i may have installed that harmed the system in this way. If anyone could help me fix this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

If this is a Dell Laptop only a few weeks old, the intelligent thing to do is call Dell and ask THEM what is wrong with your brand new laptop....I would think.

Go to

1. REGEDIT
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. SYSTEM
4. CONTROL CONTROL SET001
5. CONTROL
6. CLASS
7. Click the one which starts with 4D36E965
8. Now look on the right side of the panel
9. Look for UPPER FILTERS & LOWER FILTERS and delete them.
10. Restart the system
