Hello I have just recently purchased a X38 ATX Intel Motherboard. There are 2 orange slots for memory and 3 black slots. I have OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 memory. Does anyone know which colored slots I put the memory in?

That information would be described in your MB manual and pictorially within the first few pages.

I got it open box though, so there is no manual.

any ideas which company made the mobo? If you do know, you can search on the company's website and download a manual from there.

If you go to the motherboards Vendor website you can download the manual.

I got the manual but it doesn't really describe what the difference between orange and black are.

Please provide the manufacturer of the board as well as the model/part number so we can better assist you.

All the slots are ddr3 only. They're color coded for dual channel selection. If you only have 2 ddr3 sticks, placing both in either the orange or black slots will give you dual channel capability.
