Hey guys. I'm building a new system and thought I'd run it by the forum here first.

I'm buying everything from Newegg.com

MONITOR - $380
Acer P243WAid Black-Silver 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP Support
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824009125

CASE - $160 ($130 w/ rebate)
APEVIA X-JUPITER G-Type X-JUPITERG-BK Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811144205

PSU- $190
ZALMAN ZM850-HP ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V 850W Modular Heatpipe-Cooled SLI Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817379007

MOTHERBOARD - $240
EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813188024

CPU - $275
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6700
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115027

MEMORY - $92 ($62 w/ rebate)
OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2N800SR4GK
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227269

GPU - $255 apiece ($225 w/ rebate) = $510 ($480 w/ rebate) - (I think you can only use one rebate per address)
SLI 2 x
EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130337

HDD - $65
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148262

TOTAL = $1912 ($1822 w/ rebate)

I would like to take advantage of the eVGA trade up program for SLI 2 x 9800 gx2's (has to be done within 90 days of purchase hopefully they will go down in price a little by then)
I have Vista 32 bit (I will upgrade to 64 bit later to take advantage of all 4gb of ram)

I might go with the 1KW Zalman PSU instead of the 850W (it's $60 more but brand new with no reviews)
I'll probably throw in a DVD RW too
I Would like a nice force feedback joystick too

I'm buying some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste (my other tube is three years old)
Not sure what CPU fan I should go with (prefer sub $40) or sticking with stock fan might be fine

Nice to haves in the future - WD VelociRaptor and another of those monitors from above

Any thoughts to share or recommendations are greatly appreciated - thanks!

Looks like you have quite a bit of dough :)...though a few changes, so it would be better spent

Chuck SLI...get an x38 board..because the new $350 Radeon 4870 outperforms even the $600 9800GX2 by a LARGE margin...so instead of spending $500 on two 8800GTSes, spend $350 on a single 4870 which will give you ~ twice the performance than the two 8800GTS...and since its an X38 board you can Crossfire very well with another 4870 whenever... and X38 ain't half good.

PSU is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overkill.....a kilowatt of PSU isn't required at all... stick with 650W of power... Corsair 650TX or 750TX (even the're overkill) would be more sensible choices...know that the 4870 is going to consume LESS power than the 3870.

For $20 more, get the Seagate 500GB 7200.11

Q6700 isn't that much better than the Q6600 especially for that price difference ... stick with the Q6600 or Q9450

You'd need an aftermarket cooler only if you overclock...otherwise the stock fan is quite good...in case of cooler, get the XIGMATEK HDT S1283

Also the Antec 900 is a better case for a lot lesser price

I agree with mihirkula...

Except for the video card deal. I would wait to see how the 4870 benches; I seriously doubt that it will outdo the GX2.

Thanks for the input so far.

I currently have a OCZ Powerstream 600W PSU. It should be just fine for one 8800 GTS but anything more than that - I don't know. I've checked it out online but people who have it say it is unrealiable for SLI config.

If I were to buy a single video card setup right now, would a 8800 GTS still be a good choice?

Not buying a new PSU and sticking with only one 8800 GTS would bring the Total System down to $1467 ($1377 w/ rebate). Is this more reasonable?

A definitely wanted to try and future proof my new system. That is why I was going with a 850W+ PSU - something than can handle even SLI'd 9800 gx2's.

My old PC has a Apevia X Navigator that I liked a whole lot. It had great cooling and lots of room. I didn't take very good care of it though and now all the plastic panels are falling off. It's usable but I just wanted my new PC to actually look "new".

"The first radeon HD 4000 can appear already in the present month, it is possible to hope that the information is very true ."

Something doesn't sound right here...

A better source would be appreciated.
