Hello,

I 'm building a Rig for my Buddy for around 300..my question is.. i can score a e4400 for about 40$.. but the e7200 looks to be a nice for the price.....is the e7200 worth the price difference i can get it off newegg for a 134 shipped. Hes going to be using it for Movie's/College Work/Music edit/Surfing ... minor stuff other than the music editing.

The Rest of the parts are looking sum tin like this

E4400 or e7200
Stock cooler
Gigabyte Mobo
Crucial Ballistix 2Gig (mabye 4 if i got the money)
8600 xxx Edition (got this for about 40$)
500Watt Power supply
160 Hard Drive

Case: I'm liking the Soprano RS

For the computer your putting together the e4400 is plenty,it overclocks well too if your into that sort of thing.

Hard drive suggestions:

Western Digital 320GB WD3200AAKS
" 640GB WD6400AAKS
or a Seagate .11 HDD

I'd definitely get 4GB if it's in the budget (and right now ram's cheap). Get 2 x 2GB not 4 x 1GB.

Oh yeah, for $40 definitely get the E4400. That's a hell of a deal.

The E7200 is Wolfie overkill for this system. An E4400 is overkill for this system. This should be obvious to anyone who can read reviews... An E2160 is all your "buddy" needs... (Even more true as decent RAM and mobo = overclock!!) I presume you are pairing this baby up with a Gigabyte P35 DS3xx variant??

A just hope that PSU isn't some no-name system killer like Raidmax... You Americans really like to skimp on your PSU's don't you!! Do him a favour and get a Corsair HX520 or similar... America has a terrible grid (or so I hear!!) so you need to get a better than average PSU not worse!!

Bad choice of case I would reckon... Always look at the Newegg moans at the bottom first!!

A door is used to keep people/things out ... A cheapo plastic door serves no purpose on a PC - except to fall off!!

Get an Antec 900 case and do both of yourselves a favour...

Arrogant Brit! You know nothing about America, so don't comment on our power grid or tendencies.

Okay..

anyone have a decent case that is cheap' perffurably not much more than 50'$ lol sound like most of you dont like the one i pickd out'' and harddrive space ill probably bump it up to 320gig..4Gig if i get vista' and the power supply i was thinking cooler master or OCZ..just because they tend to be a lill bit cheaper and still a brand name ... and yes the motherboard would be a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L..

Is the E4400 a private deal? I'd take a couple for $40 ea. I'd also (gulp) have to suggest ram other than Ballistix, the new ones just aren't the same, single sided with high failure rate.

ballistix gets better reviews on one of my fav. UK e-tailers... I have tried OCZ Platinum (DDR2 800 4-4-4-15) sticks on a Gigabyte P35 DS3 and they will do what is on the tin but no headroom at all for more... So its a win-win if you go with the cheaper ram that also (allegedly) overclocks (1066??) better!!

Sorry 'bout my earlier stupid comment about buying an E2180. I didn't see the comment about the $40.00 CPU offer... Which begs the question why title the thread E7200 (expensive retail) vs E4400 (practically free) when you shouldn't even need to ask... The PC can't game (with that crippled graphics card) so why even bother considering a very slightly more powerful but very much more expensive CPU??

Like I said even the lowly E2180 is fast... The Core Architecture, with it's out-of-order-execution model, really chews up the Athlon 64 archiecture... The lack of cache is not that big a deal. My dual Operton rig is starting to feel really dated!!

..The 8600 isnt all that bad of a card ..i got it because it blows away ..the 8800..series on HD Rendering. its a great card for what he needs.. and will help him out when he needs a lill extra push.. ..He is also going to be using this as an entertainment center...'..Throw in an bluray disc..and this card will eat it up.. For Gaming..minor games it will handle.. But i highly doubt hes going to be sitting down to a Hardcore lan Fest anytime soon..lol not his thing..lol and the title Reads that way because i happened to come across that..processor..and it looks to be good for the price...but im limited knowledge on that card..and only heard of the e8200 to e8400 ...
