Hey all,
Adelphia (N.Va.) finally hooked my up. My model of reciever is a Motorla
DCT 6412/2000. I was told I dont have DVR "activated", but it sure does
have it enabled. Thats a plus. My installer was down to earth and spent a
whole 2 minutes hooking it up via YPBPr. I asked the customer service if I
could self install it and they said a tech had to. That was of course not
true. My signal is perfect. I did that as a request when my modem was
installed. The tech agreed. We spent the next half hour talking shop.
Anyways, he mentioned the benefits of his Macintosh utilizing the IEEE for
DVR backup. I am a computer nut, but have yet to have much need for
firewire. Now I do. Im not much into using the firewire to download camera
photo's etc... But I can cheaply add a pci card and take advantage of its
transfering to the DCT6412.
Upon googling so far, I see it is user friendly for Mac's, but not so for
PC's. Is this old info? Are there many benefits to be had having my HTPC
connected via firewire to the Motorola? What are some good sources to
familiarize myself? According to Adelphia's info, these are for future
upgrades. Apparently not if my tech is saying different.
Any info would be appreciated.
SL
Ps. I dont have many channels in HD, but what are show to "highlight" its
benefits for friends?
