Hi there,

Lately we have a strange problem on out network and mostlikely a configuration issue. We have a Windos 2008 server, 2 nics where 1 of them is disabled and not configured. The second has a static ip-adres 192.168.1.10. This server is also a RAS server and has therefore ip-adres 192.168.1.113.

Since some weeks when we perform a ping request to the hostname of the server it returns the ip-adres of the RAS-server and not the the 1.10. In DNS both entries can be found but deleting the 1.113 is not an option. Is there somekind of prioritylist for these ip-adresses that can be configured so that the nics ip 192.168.1.10 is the one that will be returned after a ping?

Some programs on the workstation won't work.

Short solution is changing the local host file but to do this on all the workstations .... :??:

Hope somebody can point me into the right direction.

Marcel

i came across a similar issue when creating a multicasting program a while back, the issue is caused by having multiple adapters in the machine and the machine not knowing which one you want to use as the main one.

Montyuk,

Thanks for your reply. I do wonder if this is the case. When following this article I have to remove this regkey and add manualy the 'wanted' ip-adresses into the DNS-zone. But what about the RAS-ip? Do i still have to add this nr? Will RAS still work when not adding the 113 ip-adres into DNS?

BTW strangely enough it does not happen all the time. If I ping now, the .10 replies. When I ping 10 minutes later it will proberly reply with the .113 .... :(

could you try just using the ip instead of the hostname? put the ip where ever the hostname was requested and it should work fine.

Using the host. file also ... but it;s not a solution to the unknown problem.
