I have been using a WD Worldbook (NAS)with two 500 gig disks inside. I had them set to RAID 1. Now I need to access the data due to an enclosure failure. I plugged it into my CPU and the drive is viable in disk management but a drive letter was not assigned and it can not be read.

How do I fix this??

I was under the impression that in case of failure I could easily access the data using RAID 1 mirroring.

You have to find a way to rebuild the array under a different controller. Maybe this sticky will help? http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] ng-windows

Does this mean that if one disk does fail, the remaining disk can not be read unless set back up in a RAID array?

I only need to copy about 10 gigs of files.
