Hi all,

I'm looking to invest in either a new 1TB or 1.5TB HDD.

I've narrowed down the selection to the following:-

Western Digital WD15EADS ***LEANING***
1.5TB (1500G) 32M IntelliPower SATA2 Caviar Green

Seagate ST31000528AS
1TB, 3.5" CUDA7200.12, 7200RPM, 32MB, SATA2 3.0GB/S, NCQ

Western Digital WD10EADS
1TB (1000GB) CAVIAR GP 7200RPM SATAII 3.5" 32MB

Western Digital WD1001FALS ***LEANING***
1TB(1000GB) CAVIAR BLACK/7200RPM/SATA 3GB/s /32MB CACHE/3.5"

I've got the Seagate on the list but I'm partially put off by the supposed firmware issues with the 7200.11's that they had. I've marked the ones I'm leaning towards getting in the 1TB or 1.5TB sizes. The 1.5TB Caviar Green will cost me about 40 dollars more than then 1TB Caviar Black and the 1TB Caviar Black costs around 15 to 20 dollars more than the 1TB Caviar GP. I think in the end they are all pretty similar with only some slight differences in the way they operate and their warranties.

^It depends for what the HDD will be used for...

If it will be used as a boot drive, then the WD Black is the best choice - Reason - It is one of the fastest 7200RPM drives and the difference is not only with warranties...

Even the Seagate 7200.12 drives can be good boot drives...Don't forget the Samsung F1s too...though they are not much popular, but are known for their fast access times in I/O performance...

If it is for storage, then the WD Green is a better option...

Thanks.

Yes, the 1/1.5TB Drive would be for storage, so the WD Green seems like a good choice :)

Hey.. I wanna pick up a 1TB hard disk .. to store my music and to use it for play back.. which one would be better?..

SEAGATE 1000GB 3.5" HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache (ST-31000333AS)

WESTERN DIGITAL 1000GB 3.5" HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache (WD10EADS)

Which one has better security for data.. and longer life?.. becuase it will take time to fill up and i dont want any music to go.. :) .. and faster to access the music at a party?

I just went with the Seagate 1.5 TB drive as the boot drive. It has been great. Not trouble at all.
The boot speed of my PC now is astounding!
I posted my experience here:

You can also find out about my experiences with the WD Green 1TB and the Samsung F1 1TB drive here as well.
