bought this external hard drive to copy photos onto, this was done, but now can't access the information and when I plug asks me if I want to format it H E L P!!

usually when it asks you to format means the drive is corrupted or bad. only thing to do is either return it, try it on another PC, or take it out of the external casing and connect it internally to your PC and see if it picks up the drive to see if you can fix it.
