Vista 64 Standby Issue

Last response: in Windows Vista

My machine won't enter standby.

Specs:
ECS gf8200-a mobo
athlon x2 64 5200+
4GB crucial rendition 667
Nvidia 8800GT OC
Intel LAN
5 total drives

It's not devices, or services, or BIOS. I have tried standby in clean boot with ALL BIOS options. All devices unplugged. The machine starts off fine, GPU turns off, cpu goes off, HDDs turn off, but the power and all fans stay on. Yes, It's set for s3 sleep, not s1....Though I even tried that, still no go.

I have tried micro$ofts tracing tools, xbootmgr and xperf. It never finishes entering standby, so I don't get a log. I've waited 15 min before shutting it down and restarting it. If standby can't be faster than shutdown/restart, its useless to me.

Currently, there is no HDD activity at idle, so it's not things being written out before entering s3. W vista ultimate 64 I have the HDD light coming on less than once every 20 seconds. Like it used to with win98....lol

This is just baffling me, any constructive help would be appreciated

Also, not sure if its related, boot does take too long. Using xbootmgr shows fltmgr.sys running about a hundred twenty times for 100-4000 ms each time, so it may be something hanging up somewhere. I just can't figure out where it is. Still working on it.

One of these links refers to a hotfix from Microsoft.

I have tried all hotfixes I could find on M$ site. After one didn't work I would uninstall it. Update, no extended power states work. Standby s1 and s3, hibernate, and hybrid sleep. Lights go off, but power stays on and I have to manually restart.

Update, when dual booting, XP enters and resumes standby with ease. But Vista still has issues. I do have a custom bootloader for vista though. Could this have something to do with it, I wonder? I'll go back to the OE macroshytza loader, see if it helps.
