How to build fiber network?

First of all I would like to apologize for this badly written post, I don't know the english terms for some of these stuff so I'm just roughly translating the swedish terms to english.

Hello, I got a school assignment that's really tricky. We're supposed to plan how to build a fibernetwork in a small neighbourhood. The problem is that I don't know anything about this and our teacher hasn't really told us much either. I've tried googling but I haven't found very much..

We're supposed to give 72 houses "triple play"and apparently we need 2-thread multicore fiber?
This is the stuff I'm wondering about:

> He went on about something about big and small barrels that can split a 96 fiber to 48-thread fiber and we also have to choose whether we want to use 48/96 fiber. Is that the purpose of these "barrels" or do they have other purposes too?

> Where am I supposed to place the switches and tv splitters?

> Difference between 500mm and 8mm pipes/cords?

> So, any tips/hints on how to complete this task?
