I'm using EVGA Precision to see my 9800GX2 temp, and it seems pretty high. I haven't overclocked it, but it still runs at about a constant 55C when it idles. After just 10 minutes or so of CoD4 it gets up to 70C. I don't know much about video card temps, but I know if my CPU went that high it would probably fry. So I figured before I pushed my card any further, I'd come here and ask you guys if that seems about right. I know the card is generally supposed to run pretty hot, but should I be worried about these temps?
well i have the bfg 9800gx2 and when i 1st got it, it idle at 60-65c. i hit 70c with overclocking. so ur temp seem fine. The 9800gx2 i believe has 2 pcb so its expected to get warm.

I have the same concerns running quad-sli with two 9800GX2's. My cards idle around 65-75C but get up to 102C when playing Bioshock. When I'm running a game the temps hover anywhere from 85C to 102C at its max. This is with the fan speed at 100% and ambient temperatures of 68F-74F. The system manufacturer assured me that the cards can handle this temperature. This is without overclocking at all. I overclocked the cards and saw the temps rise to 104C max during some missions in Bioshock. I decided not to overclock the cards that much given the temps.

As long as there's no artifacting, crashes, or anything to indicate an overheating component then your fine.

Well, you'd be surprised at the extra fps you need to squeeze out when gaming at 1920x1200 w/ all the eye candy on. I have a constant overclock on my Gx2 via Nvidia Precision.

Mine (gx2) is running 80-95c (both GPU's) on idle and over 120-125c under stress (such as gaming), with the fan at 100%. Probably it would go alot higher then 125c, if it managed to stay on, but I havent dared to test what the card can take before dying.. So consider yourself lucky with your temp's And yes, I've been getting alot of crashes due to temps.

I'm running same configuration as you and get 90c on idle at 100%. Are they running ok?...that was a concern of mine since my system is brand new...i didn't think think such a high temp is normal or good for the longevity of the cards?

Did you come up with a solution?..at the moment I have left the side case off, I run the gpu fans at 65% and get idel temps around 68oc
