More Information

I have an AMD 64 x2 based system that is 3 years old, I am thinking of upgrading soon.
What I have:
asus an32sli deluxe motherboard
4400 x2 processor running at 2.8 ghz (had a maxoc of 2.95)
2 gigs Geil overclocking ddr
nvidia 8800 gtx video
cooler master water cooler system for cpu
sb xfi fatality sound card
antec 900 series case (250 mm fan in the top)
2 x wd rapter 75 gig hard drives in raid -0
Antec true power 900w power supply as I was thinking of running sli at first.

I have found that the overclock seems to have an adverse affect on the sound cards as this is the 3rd one in 3 years so I backed the overclock down to stock and the cpu just cant push the video card and is bottlenecking there hence the thoughts of upgrading.
I mainly use the computer for gaming, oblivian, WOW,NFS, far cry, and crysis.

I have used the asus motherboards for years but I cannot afford another high end motherboard and also dont need one as a single graphics card will do what I need.

My question is what is the best CPU/MB/Memory combination can I get forsub $500?

Yeah, extremely high indeed.  Did you lock the PCI clock rate in the BIOS when you OC'ed?
