i got a dell dimension 4550 with a bad hd. i have several spare hd's but apparently i need something special to make them run on this dell machine..... this is killing me... i hate brande computers. but i am currently using a 1.3 g amd machine... and would like the perfomance increase of the 2.4g p4
your post is crap, what do you want to know?
how to fix get the hard drive replaced,
or something about p4 upgrades.
specificity is your friend if you want stuff done.
as far as the internet can tell nothing special is required to get a standard hd working in your pc. just make sure its a PATA drive (uses wide flat cables).
as far as upgrading to a p4 it is a very poor move.
you can build a 300-400 dollar machien that would mop the floor with a p4
and if there are good components in the amd machine you currently use you could save ~100 dollars.
am using pata drives. the dell computer will not recognize any hd i install.
i have read for a dell machine you have to prepare the hard drive a certain way?
is this correct?
Dell use standard drives, nothing non-standard.
What do you mean by "not recognise"? Is it showing in the BIOS? have you partitioned and formatted? Is it the boot drive?
