Is your friend set on AMD? There are some intel builds posted that are fairly cheap. What is the computer going to be used for? what programs is your friend going to be using? Does your friend already have some parts? Hard drive? Disk drive? Case? And lastly, what is the budget that your friend has? As you can imagine different uses for the computer call for different components, with more information people will be better able to help with suggestions.

Wip99gt, no, the 4000 is a dual core.

second that (and not to sound like a fan boy) Intel does have some sweet offerings, and alot of people are misinformed thinking AMD is still this monstrous company that has chips Intel can never beat - open your eyes and check out what both have to offer.

heh i dunno, the E2xxx all clock to 3ghz MINIMUM and tend to blow anything K8 out of the water, the premium spent is well worth it, plus the option on most boards to goto the Q6600, or 8 or even 9 series Core2's - the premium is worth it.

As for the end user, if they have made it here to post things on this forum, they can also read the overclocking guide and get the thing to easily clock to 3ghz, easy.

I use a E2140 for a media pc - i wouldnt say they stink ;)
