short answer -"next" generation -NO. It is much more likely artificial cells that are identical could be clustered and used for storage/and or processing in the mainstream before bacteria. This would be a very basic "brain". While research is being done on bacteria for many interesting usages including data storage there are still some very basic challenges that prevent uses where the bacteria cannot be destroyed and must be renewed in identical clusters. We are several generations away from such things reaching consumers, if the "bugs" are ever worked out.
