FSB Backward compatible?

Is the FSB on the motherboard backward compatible? For example my motherboard supports FSB 1600/1333MHz. Will it for with a FSB 1066MHz CPU? If yes will it compromise anything?

If a board supports 1333mhz, then it will work with any 1066mhz or 800mhz CPU
