will MB with Sata capability run older IDE drives?

Of course you can. Just don't try to plug and IDE cable in a SATA socket...

Never understimate people.
I read a few weeks ago @newegg a review of a 790 mobo where the guy complained about the weird noises the heard from his system after having a hard time placing his amd processor....

*Edit* yup seems like 790 is only Intel
