Trying to put together components for video editing, multi tasking & general everyday use computer.

Very little gaming. Probably no overclocking

I'm currently going back & forth between these mobos:

Gigabyte ep45-ds3r lga775 intel p45
Gigabyte ep45-ds3l
ASUS p5q pro
Asus pq5e
Asus p5q

I'm leaning towards the Gigabytes atm cause of all the ports but just wondering what the general feeling is on gigabyte vs asus current boards.

They are both very good, I think Gigabyte tends to be a little less expensive. Either would be a great choice just look for the features you want.

It's a mater of personal preference. One big difference is the BIOS. ASUS offers American megatrends and Gigabyte Award. In recent months ASUS has done a nice job revamping their ROP boards with some nice enthusiast oriented additions. The P5Q is priced to move at newegg currently.

This is more expensive and would be my choice of a current affordable, cutting edge technology MB:

I agree with what your saying but for just a solid inexpensive board I might suggest this. It's a bit cheaper than the Asus and still has a lot of features for the price. I tend to always buy Asus for my systems but I have built systems with Gigabyte boards and they are very good.

im leaning towards Gigabyte. Gigabyte ep45-ds3r has Firewire, to some it's a must, but if you can live w/o it then Gigabyte ep45-ds3l is indeed very affordable.

if you go into BIOS alot i'd go with badge's pick because ASUS does have a better BIOS. so go with what you need and you should be fine with the choices you post.

PCIE 2.0 x16 supports older PCIE 1.0 x16 also. The P45 offers one full PCIE 2.0 16x slot as opposed to X48 2 slots supportig CrossfireX.
